US Masters award
The UK Film Council's Diversity department in partnership with the Fulbright Commission is offering the opportunity to one person from an under-represented group to pursue a Masters degree in Film Directing, Screenplay, Production, Cinematography, Scoring/Composition or Film Business at any accredited US institution.
This is a positive action programme for groups under-represented in the UK film industry. The successful candidate will work with the Fulbright Commission and the Institute of International Education (IIE) to find the right course and department for them.
The award
The award is for the dollar equivalent of £20,000, paid in instalments, which is a contribution towards the first year's tuition fees.
Selection criteria
To be eligible for this award applicants need:
· To be from a group under represented in the UK film industry - either a women, or from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background or a disabled person.
· To hold a hold or expect to obtain a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree or the equivalent prior to your anticipated enrolment with a US university.
In making this award the Fulbright Commission and UK Film Council are looking not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and a plan to give back to your home country upon returning.

Fulbright – UK Film Council scholar 2008
Last year's Fulbright-UK Film Council Award was made to Alexander Rudd, 27 years old from Preston, who is hoping to pursue a Masters degree in Scoring for Motion Picture/TV at the University of California, commencing later this year.
At the age of 16 he won the prestigious title of National Composer of the Year and went on to study composition at Trinity College of Music in London.
Since graduating with a first class honours degree he has composed for theatre and film. He has also collaborated with visual artists, worked on community and education projects as well as composing and conducting for concert commissions.
Alex wants to use the opportunities provided by the Fulbright – UK Film Council award to deepen his knowledge in the area of film composition and to develop his career in the film industry.
